The Wiltern opened in the early '30s and was named after the family that owned the land it was built on. The Wiltern's art-deco architecture has remained one of its defining characteristics. It initially was a vaudeville theater, and at that time was called the Warner Brothers Western Theater. Not long afterward, the name was changed to the Wiltern.
