Swirling guitar riffs and synthesizer beats are the Horrors' MO, giving psychedelia and goth a contemporary revamp. The band borrows liberally from the distortion-layered rock of '80s shoegaze outfits like My Bloody Valentine and the Jesus and Mary Chain. The Horrors couldn't help but attract attention, even upon forming in 2005. Their black clothes and tousled emo mops earned them some detractors in the press (as if having a lead singer dubbed Spider Webb wasn't enough), but they had music to back up their image. Their debut, 2007's Strange House, silenced their critics, earning 'wait and see' responses on both sides of the Atlantic.
While their first record was soaked in black, the Horrors issued a follow-up with a record titled Primary Colours. But make no mistake; the band's dark music hasn't lost its charm. Their update on post-punk earned them a lot of notice in America, widening their fan base immediately.
