Robert Earl Keen grew up in Texas and wrote poetry as a high school student but didn't learn to play the guitar until he went to Texas A&M University. Keen and Lyle Lovett even wrote a song together called "This Old Porch." He debuted in 1984 with No Kinda Dancer and went on to record some live albums.
