RatDog was formed in 1995 after the Grateful Dead disbanded due to the death of Jerry Garcia. They have gone by several names, but have been touring under their current moniker since 1995. The band is now Weir's primary project, and their sound is comparable to the Grateful Dead. Shows are impromptu performances of lengthy variations of different songs from different artists, and every performance is unique.
