In the late '90s, OutKast typified the Dirty South rap of Atlanta. But by 2000, there was nothing typical in their music: They were blending rock and R&B with rap and pop in a wonderfully kaleidoscopic mashup of genres. OutKast is a duo comprised of Antwan Patton (better known as Big Boi) and Andre Benjamin (previously known as Andre 3000, and more recently as simply Andre). Straight out of high school, they released "Player's Ball" and jettisoned themselves to the top of the charts. The late '90s belonged to the Dirty South, with OutKast leading the way with a brash and humorous style.
In 2000, OutKast released Stankonia, scoring two more big hits with "Ms. Jackson" and "B.O.B. (Bombs Over Baghdad)." The record received universal praise, but no one could expect the hype around SpeakerBoxxx/The Love Below, a double LP record released in 2003. "Hey Ya" became OutKast's inescapable hit, and turned listeners everywhere into fans. Since then, OutKast tickets have been hard to get a hold of.
