Dan Deacon is an odd duck, a bespectacled, bearded and generally jolly guy who looks like he'd be more at home tinkering with gadgets than raving it up in indie music clubs. In reality, he does both, making bizarre homemade instruments that he employs at his shows. The Baltimore musician has been part of an art collective called Wham City for several years now-an eclectic bunch that seems to enjoy defying expectations.
Dan Deacon's music first started getting capturing major attention in indie music blogs in 2007, when he released an album called Spiderman of the Rings. Tracks like "Woody Woodpecker," which loops the cartoon icon's trademark laugh and creates a creepy montage of sound, or "Crystal Cat"-which has a mind-blowing music video you can find on YouTube-made it clear he was a unique talent.
